Sigiriya tomorrow morning - do we still climb if the rock is wet or is that how people slide off
Booked the 7am slot in our heads. Sky looks like Kandy weather is leaking this way. Metal stairs + rain + my mum's knees. Do they close the upper climb when it is wet or just let you sign your own death waiver. Is the ticket still the full amount if we only do the gardens.

They do not generally close Sigiriya because it rained. They will close the spiral / fresco pocket or the very top if it is unsafe or if wasps are active. The rest stays open and the rock is just slippery. Wear rubber shoes, not leather sandals. If it is a proper downpour at the ticket office, wait 30 minutes - these cells pass. The ticket is for the site, not a weather guarantee. No refund because the summit clouded over.
We went up in a drizzle earlier this week. Slow on the iron stairs, fine. Summit was in cloud for ten minutes then opened. Gardens alone are not why you paid. If mum hates heights, she can stop at the lion paws and the rest of you go up.

TukTuk or tour drivers take you to "gem museums" or "government-certified" gem shops. They receive huge commissions (up to 40%) on anything you buy. Prices are inflated 3-10x the actual value.
Men approach tourists near Temple of the Tooth offering to be guides. After the tour, they demand large "donations" or guide fees (5000-10000 LKR).
