We want to take a local bus from Bandarawela to Haputale to see the tea estates Is it safe and do the buses run frequently

Yes it is very safe and incredibly scenic The public CTB buses run roughly every 30 to 45 minutes along that mountain route The drive takes about an hour depending on how many stops it makes for estate workers Try to sit on the left side of the bus for the best sweeping views of the valleys

Avoid taking large luggage on these buses They get packed with schoolchildren around 2 PM

Hold on tight The drivers take those mountain switchbacks very fast

Usually no Just the standard red CTB buses But it is cold up there anyway so you do not need AC
