They knocked down the Ahangama beach cafes this week - is our guesthouse still standing
Booked a beachfront room in Ahangama, found it on a map pin that is basically on the sand. Daily Mirror said 22 illegal structures including restaurants and cafes went on the 18th and more might follow. Host is not answering. Do we show up or reroute to Midigama / Hiriketiya.

The demolitions targeted unauthorised builds inside the 10-25 metre shoreline buffer - cafes and shacks on the sand, not every hotel on the road. If your pin is a cafe deck on the beach, assume it is gone or about to be. If it is a guesthouse set back behind the road, it is probably still there. Demand a same-day photo of the gate and the room number. If the host ghosts, chargeback / Booking.com and move inland or to Hiriketiya.
We walked the strip. Some concrete pads and angry owners, some places still serving juice two plots over. It is patchy, not a nuclear site. Confirm before you van from Galle.
Do not pay a cash deposit to rebuild the terrace. That is not your job.
