My family has some allergies and preferences beyond vegan. How easy is it to manage in Sri Lanka?

It requires more planning than for vegan diets. Many restaurants can adapt dishes if you communicate clearly (use translation apps or written cards). Rice and curry places are often naturally gluten-free if you avoid certain sambols or fried items. Nut allergies can be trickier as coconut and other nuts are common. Carry translation cards with your specific restrictions. Some higher-end hotels and restaurants are used to accommodating dietary needs. Pharmacies can help with basic medicines if needed. It's manageable with preparation but not as straightforward as in some Western countries.

Many guesthouses are happy to prepare special meals if you give them notice. Building a relationship with your hosts helps a lot.
