We are in Jaffna tonight and Nallur is loud already - is there an evening procession or is that only the September chariot
Walked out of the guesthouse and the loudspeakers are doing the thing. Flag went up Monday. We know the chariot is September. What are we actually walking into at 8pm on a Friday - a daily inner ritual we should not crash, or a street procession a tourist can stand at the edge of.

Festival mode is nightly now through mid-September. You will hear it. Some evenings have vahana / outer processions; the Ther chariot day is not tonight (schedules point at 9 or 11 September - treat the kovil noticeboard as the truth). Cover shoulders and knees, no leather in inner areas, no photos where they say no. Stand at the edge. You are a guest.
We did the outer courtyard Wednesday. Heavy, packed, vegetarian stalls. We did not push in.
If a volunteer in a vest tells you to move, move. That is not a negotiation.
