I want to visit the Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil. Is it true that men must remove their shirts to enter the temple. Are there any other specific customs to follow.

Yes, it is a strict tradition at Nallur Kovil that men must remove their upper garments before entering the inner sanctum. Women should wear a saree or a long dress that covers the shoulders and ankles. Photography is strictly prohibited inside the temple walls. You must remove your shoes at the entrance. It is a deeply spiritual place, so please maintain silence and follow the clockwise path around the deities.

If you visit during the evening Puja around five, the atmosphere with the chanting and bells is incredible. Just be mindful of the crowds during festival seasons in August when thousands of devotees gather.
