I want to see the giant white Buddha statue at Bahirawakanda Vihara. When is the perfect time of day to visit for amazing views and fewer crowds.

The absolute best time to visit Bahirawakanda Temple is around four in the afternoon. You can comfortably explore the massive white Buddha statue and then stay for the breathtaking sunset view over the entire Kandy lake and city below. The golden light hitting the statue is truly spectacular for photographs.

Remember to dress modestly with shoulders and knees fully covered before entering the temple grounds. You will also need to remove your shoes and hats at the designated area near the base of the statue. Carry a small bag to hold your footwear as the racks can get very busy.

You can easily reach Bahirawakanda by tuk tuk from Kandy town for around five hundred rupees. The walk up is steep so the tuk tuk ride is highly recommended especially during the warm midday hours. Entry fee for foreign visitors is around two hundred and fifty rupees.
