Sri Lankan immigration is incredibly strict regarding overstays. If you overstay your visa even by a single day you will be pulled aside at the airport departure desk and forced to pay a hefty financial penalty. The fine is currently set at 500 USD plus the standard cost of the visa extension.

They absolutely do not accept excuses about flight delays or confusion. If you suspect you might need an extra day it is infinitely cheaper and less stressful to simply log online and pay for a formal visa extension a week before your original visa expires.
