I have Visa, Mastercard, and Revolut cards with me. Which ones actually work reliably at Sri Lankan ATMs and what fees should I expect per withdrawal.

Visa and Mastercard debit cards work reliably at almost every ATM across the country including remote areas like Jaffna, Trincomalee, and Arugam Bay. Revolut and Wise cards generally work well too offering excellent exchange rates without foreign transaction fees. Commercial Bank, Sampath Bank, Bank of Ceylon, and HNB have the widest ATM networks. Most ATMs charge a local fee of around four hundred rupees per withdrawal on top of any fees from your home bank.

Withdraw the maximum amount allowed per transaction which is usually around sixty thousand rupees to minimize repeated ATM fees. Always inform your home bank about your Sri Lanka travel dates before departing to avoid fraud blocks on your card. Keep at least two different cards in separate bags as backup in case one gets demagnetized, lost, or blocked unexpectedly.
