Every ATM on Dalada is either dry or a queue of 30 - is there a machine that still works Friday night

Commercial ate the card, spat nothing, asked 700. HNB has a queue around the block because the road is the parade. Banks are shut. We need cash for a tuk and dinner. I am not asking the dollar rate. I am asking which box still has notes at 8.30 on a Perahera Friday.

Machines on the route are a waste of a queue tonight. Walk to a hotel lobby ATM off Gopallawa / Peradeniya Road, or a supermarket box once you are outside the tape. Commercial / Sampath / HNB / BoC are the usual foreign-card ones. Perahera nights they run out of 5,000s first. Try a 10,000 or 20,000 withdrawal, once.

Hotel cashier changed USD 50 at a slightly ugly rate and saved dinner. Fine for one night.

Decline DCC. If two machines hard-decline, stop - that is the bank, not the festival, and you do not want a fraud flag.
