How much is the bus fare from Colombo to Kandy for tourists.
2 Answers from travellers
The standard non air conditioned red CTB bus from Colombo Pettah to Kandy costs roughly two hundred and twenty rupees per person. The comfortable air conditioned intercity express bus costs around four hundred and fifty rupees and the journey is significantly faster taking about three hours.
Tourists pay exactly the same fare as locals on public buses. There is no special tourist pricing. Always keep small notes ready as the conductor will not always have change for a five thousand rupee note. The buses leave very frequently from the Bastian Mawatha terminal.
Scam Watch: colombo
Driver claims the meter is broken and quotes an inflated flat rate. Common on arrival at airport or railway stations when tourists are tired and disoriented.
Drivers wearing official-looking uniforms claim to be "government-approved" and charge 3-5x normal rates. They may have fake badges or ID cards.
Women with babies approach asking you to buy milk powder at a nearby shop (not cash). The shop is run by accomplices and charges 5-10x normal price.
