Arugam Bay is generally incredibly safe and highly welcoming for solo female travelers. The town relies entirely on surf tourism so the locals are very accustomed to foreign backpackers and the community vibe is deeply relaxed.

You will easily meet dozens of other solo travelers at the beach cafes and hostels. However standard travel safety rules apply. Avoid walking completely alone on unlit stretches of the beach late at night and always use a trusted tuk tuk driver to return home after parties.
