We are heading north and want a real adventure trying local palm toddy and experiencing Tamil culture Are there taverns that welcome tourists

Palmyra toddy in Jaffna is a must. The taverns are very rustic but locals are usually friendly. Go in the morning for the fresh sweet stuff.

I recommend a local guide who can take you to the village taverns instead of the city ones.

Jaffna is very different from the south. The food is much spicier so be ready for that adventure.
