We are in. Shoes off. We were talking at normal volume about Saturday 6.28 and someone knocked. Host says neighbours have work, keep it down, Perahera is over. Is this a real Kandy after-parade thing or are we the loud room. Kid is still wired.

After a Kumbal night the lanes go from drums to a residential street in twenty minutes. Whisper. Kid on a tablet with headphones. The generator is already the neighbourhood's problem; do not add yours. Saturday 6.28 planning can be a note on the phone.

We knock once. We will not knock twice. Other rooms have 6am vans. If you need to talk, the verandah facing the lane is worse. Inside, door shut.

We got the knock in Ella too. It is not personal. It is 10pm in a house, not a hostel common room.

Whispering. Kid on headphones. Saturday 6.28 is a note on the phone.
