We are in. The street procession is over and this guesthouse generator is still doing the whole building. Fan works, Wi-Fi blinks, the bathroom light is a strip. Reception said "Perahera load." Is CEB actually back in this bit of Kandy and they just have not switched, or do we sleep to a diesel cough until morning.

We run it so the gate light and the pump have a chance. We will switch when the board is stable. Tell us if a room is dark; do not go into the generator cage.

A lake-side or Katukele guesthouse that started the generator at 6 does not always switch back the minute the last torch is in. Ask once, politely, whether CEB is on the board. If the answer is "generator until morning," that is the answer. Earplugs. Do not invent a citywide cut - there is no 21 Aug CEB Perahera load-shedding gazette on the open wires we fetched.

Ours switched about 10. The night before they left it on until 6am and nobody slept. Ask. Then stop asking.

Asking reception once. Earplugs if they say until morning.
