Hotel bar just poured a Lion - is a beer after Perahera rude during the mourning days
9.16, inland guesthouse, street finally a street. They put two Lions on the counter without us asking. We know tonight is not Nikini and we are not asking if the island is dry. We are asking whether sitting with a beer an hour after a Tooth procession, during the Nanda Malini mourning days, is the kind of thing that gets you a look.

Nikini Poya - the islandwide dry day - is Thursday 27 August, the Grand Randoli night, not tonight. Mourning for Nanda Malini is 21-23 Aug and is flags at state buildings, not a liquor gazette. A quiet beer inside a hotel that is pouring is normal Friday. What is rude is drinking on the route, on the lake wall, or turning the walk-back into a pub crawl past people who came as devotees. DIG yesterday: this is not a carnival.
We had one in the courtyard Wednesday. Fine. The table that played music toward the street got a visit from the porter.
If the guesthouse offered it, they have decided it is their house. Keep it inside. Do not carry the bottle back out onto Dalada.
